What’s Bigger Than a Bread Box?

Our dog’s head, that’s what!

Our dog and the pet carrier we brought him home with 6 years ago. Photos by author.

Cleaning out our closet in preparation for upcoming puppies, we ran across some dog memorabilia that made us smile about one of our biggest dogs Samson. He is a rare gray Caucasian Ovcharka we purchased in Montana as a pup. My husband flew out to meet the breeder and bring him to his forever home. With no small dog carrier available, we opted for a soft sided bag with a carry handle. It was the first and last time we ever used that carrier.

Samson at 6 weeks old about to fly from Montana to Vermont.

Samson was not a big puppy. But he grew exponentially until he was about 150 lbs and then started to fill out. Now he is closer to 200 lbs and his snout is larger that the carry bag he came home in.

He never lost his beautiful gray coat or gray eyes. Another trait that stayed with him is his calm and friendly demeanor which is what we look for when breeding dogs.

Samson full grown. He looks like a huge bushy bear but in reality he’s more like a teddy bear.

We only breed once a year and are expecting our 2024 puppies April 5. Puppies are all purebed and come with first shots and papers. Parents are on premises.

If you’d like one of these brave, protective pups, let us know.
